😱 “DNA Doesn’t Lie: The True Father of Shayla’s Baby Finally Exposed!”
Setting: A living room in Shayla's family home. Shayla is sitting on the couch with her friend Monique. Her mother Denise is in the kitchen listening in. Moments later, Trey, Shayla’s boyfriend (who thought he was the father), walks in. A DNA test envelope lies on the coffee table.
Monique:
(wide-eyed, holding the envelope)
Girl… are you sure you wanna open this now?
Shayla:
(nervously biting her lip)
What difference does it make, Monique? It’s already done. I just… I need to know. We all do.
Denise:
(calling from the kitchen)
Shayla, baby, whatever it says, we’ll deal with it together. Just don’t let it break you.
Shayla:
(softly)
I’m already broken, Mama.
(The front door opens. Trey walks in with a serious expression, holding a stuffed animal.)
Trey:
Hey... I brought this for Nyla. Thought it’d help her sleep better.
(He looks around at the tense room.)
What’s going on?
Monique:
(looks at Shayla)
You should tell him.
Shayla:
(stands up, taking a deep breath)
Trey... the DNA test came back.
Trey:
(frowns)
Already? That was fast.
Shayla:
I asked for it to be expedited. I couldn’t wait any longer. I had to know.
Trey:
(voice rising slightly)
You had to know what? Shayla, you told me you were sure. That she was mine.
Shayla:
I thought she was. I wanted her to be. But things weren’t adding up, and the guilt was eating me alive. I couldn’t keep lying, not to you, not to myself.
(She picks up the envelope, hands shaking.)
Monique:
You want me to read it?
Shayla:
No. I’ll do it.
(Shayla tears it open. Her eyes scan the paper. Silence. She closes her eyes.)
Shayla:
It’s not you, Trey.
(A long pause. Trey stands completely still, blinking. Then laughs bitterly.)
Trey:
Wow. Just like that? After everything? After midnight feedings, diaper runs, walking the floor with her when she couldn’t sleep — she’s not mine?
Denise:
(softly from the kitchen)
Trey, baby, we understand you’re hurt...
Trey:
(snapping)
With all due respect, Ms. Denise, I don’t think you do.
(Turns back to Shayla.)
Trey:
So who is it? Who’s the real father?
(Shayla hesitates. Tears form in her eyes.)
Shayla:
...Malik.
Monique:
(gasps)
Wait—Malik?! As in your ex? The one from before Trey?
Trey:
(coldly)
Malik. The one you swore you had no contact with since we started dating?
Shayla:
I didn’t! I mean… not after we got serious. But there was that one time. Just one stupid, selfish night when things were rocky between us. I thought we were done, Trey. I messed up.
Trey:
(laughing again, this time almost in disbelief)
You didn’t just mess up, Shayla. You built a whole life with me on a lie.
Shayla:
(crying)
It wasn’t all a lie! I loved you. I still do. You were the best thing that ever happened to me. I just… I was scared. And once I saw you holding her, loving her like your own, I couldn’t destroy that.
Trey:
You destroyed it the moment you didn’t tell me the truth. I could’ve walked away then, maybe forgiven you. But now? After all this time?
(He sets the stuffed animal on the table.)
Trey:
I’m gonna need some time. To figure out what any of this means for me... and for Nyla.
Denise:
Trey, you’re still her daddy in every way that counts.
Trey:
I wish it was that simple.
(He walks out without another word. Shayla sinks to the couch, sobbing. Monique hugs her tightly.)
Monique:
Shay… this isn’t the end. It’s messy, yeah. But now the truth is out. That’s the first step.
Shayla:
(between sobs)
What if the truth cost me everything?
Monique:
Then you rebuild. You’re stronger than you think.
(Denise walks over and holds her daughter’s hand.)
Denise:
DNA may not lie, baby. But love doesn’t vanish that easily either.
